Logan Gains Valuable Experience at Habitat for Master’s in Nonprofit Management

Ben Logan is getting plenty of work experience with Habitat for Humanity for his future career. In his last year at Grace College, Logan is working on his degree as an intern in fundraising and development with Habitat for Humanity. While working on his master’s in nonprofit management, he is also working part-time as the assistant manager at the Habitat for Humanity Resale Outlet.

As a Grace student, Logan is participating in a blended degree program allowing him to graduate in May with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. His undergraduate degree is focused on environmental science. Logan discovered his love for the nonprofit world while he was participating in work for his environmental science degree. “I found my passion for nonprofit work while working at the Lilly Center,” Logan stated.

He realized he was better at the organizational work and chose to move forward with a master’s in nonprofit management degree.

After graduation, Logan plans to hopefully continue with work in fundraising and development for a local nonprofit. “It depends on where I’m needed and if I believe in the mission,” he emphasized. When it comes to fundraising, he finds believing in the mission to be of the utmost importance. He has to believe in the mission in order to sell it to potential donors.

In his internship, Logan is responsible for database management and donor communication. He looks into a variety of strategies to work with the local nonprofits and develop donor relationships. He also works on grant writing.

In his role as assistant manager at the resale outlet, he manages store operations and spends a large portion of the day interacting with customers. He prices items that come in, runs the register, interacts with the volunteers and shows them what to do, and helps customers to find what they are looking for. “It’s a lot of interacting with customers, which I really enjoy,” Logan admitted. Beginning in January, the resale outlet is now open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

In his free time, he enjoys playing spikeball on campus with friends and reading. Some of his favorite books to read include those on leadership and motivation, as he likes to study the psychology behind it.

Logan is from the Marion area, Jonesboro to be exact, and is the youngest in his family. He chose Grace College because he wanted to venture out and not stay too close to home. Choosing a Christian college was also a high priority in his decision.

“I really connected with the community,” he stated. He has grown to love the area for its small-town, community feel along with a love for the abundance of area lakes.
