Alumni Spotlight Carlin Yoder

Grace College Online alumnus Carlin Yoder is a Republican in the Indiana Senate. Yoder represents District 12, which includes portions of Elkhart and Kosciusko counties. He is also a leadership trainer at Lippert Components Inc. and owner of Danceworks Academy. Yoder had a simple reason for pursuing his Master of Business Administration degree. “I felt like I needed a new challenge and wanted a clearer understanding of business,” he said. He applies what he learned in the MBA program to his day-to-day responsibilities in the Senate.

“My MBA from Grace College has been helpful in budget discussions as well as financial responsibilities for our state. It has been especially helpful in the Education and Appropriations committees, of which I am a member. It is essential to have a working knowledge of the business world in order to fully comprehend and appreciate the merits of each bill.”

Yoder’s education has been particularly beneficial in his understanding of business. “Earning my MBA from Grace College has provided a new perspective on business,” he said. “Because of this experience, I am more engaged in what’s happening in the world and how it influences business and the economy.”

Why did Yoder select Grace? He credits the quality instruction and flexibility. “The online modality was ideal for me and my family,” he said. “I have also felt the need to work toward my MBA as a part of faithfully fulfilling my duties as a state senator. I was drawn to Grace College because it was convenient and I have a lot of respect for the [college]. All my professors were very helpful and showed a lot of interest in my work. It was evident they truly cared about bettering me personally and professionally.”

Yoder currently serves on four committees: Appropriations, Homeland Security & Transportation, Education & Career Development and Veteran Affairs & The Military. He attributes his experience at Grace College with pushing him to become a better leader.

“Overall, I was extremely impressed with the Grace College MBA program,” Yoder said. “It delivered excellent educational value combined with engaging, thought-provoking professors. Grace College also gave me insight into the thought processes of business leaders, which pushed me to develop myself as a leader.”
