How to Be a Successful Online College Student
Tagged With About Grace Online Online Education
Online students and traditional students have a lot in common; they’re both working on assignments, participating in group projects, taking exams, listening to lectures, and reading textbooks. But the technology required to do all of these things is what really sets an online student apart.
If taking tests online or joining a virtual group meeting is foreign to you, don’t let that deter you from choosing a college degree online. We understand the difficulties that may accompany taking online classes, and we have collected several academic resources for you to reference as you learn how to navigate your college degree online. When it comes to how to be a successful online college student — we’ve got you covered.
1. Online Writing Lab
The writing process can be difficult, but Grace’s online writing lab provides help for students who may be struggling with writing papers. Whether you have difficulty selecting a strong topic or need help editing your nearly completed essay, the experts at the writing lab are available to assist you along the way. The writing lab offers online assistance, which simply requires students to email their paper and the syllabus to the writing center. Within two days of submitting a paper, a writing lab tutor will get back to you with suggestions!
2. Academic Success Tips
The School of Online and Adult Education at Grace is committed to equipping you with a wealth of tips about how to be a successful online college student. These tips may come in the form of a resource training session before you begin your college degree online. They may come via email from a program coordinator, helping you choose and register for your elective classes. They may come during a phone call with your professor who is helping you flesh out a concept you don’t understand or explaining how to best study the course material for an exam.
Grace College will help you understand your learning style and how to adapt your studying habits to match the way you best absorb information. We provide students with a Success Coach who will serve as their academic advisor and help guide them through their programs. And beyond that, all of our staff is available and happy to help you. We want to assist you in your online learning experience in whatever way you need.
3. Grace College Online Databases
The extensive library at Grace includes subscriptions to countless online databases. These tools can help you immensely in your research. We have both broad databases that contain journals from a variety of study areas as well as more specialized databases that provide resources for specific fields. If you have never used a database before and don’t know where to start, we also offer librarian assistance to help walk you through the process step by step.
4. Helpful Library Links
Beyond the writing lab and databases, our library offers a large list of resources for students. These academic resources include help on research writing, dictionaries, and even citation style guides. There are also links listed by academic subject to give you a more extensive background on a specific subject you may be researching. The library has also provided a list of free e-books and e-journals that may help improve your research experience.
5. Technology Support
While accessing all of these resources, it is important to keep in mind that Grace offers technology support when you need it.
